OVERVIEW
What is Polished Concrete?
Polished concrete is a refined decorative flooring system, created through the careful placement, finishing, and polishing of concrete to achieve a smooth, seamless surface with subtle natural character.
Unlike traditional floor coverings such as tiles, timber, or vinyl, polished concrete is formed in situ, eliminating the need for additional surface layers. The result is a continuous, understated finish that integrates effortlessly with the surrounding architecture.
Key characteristics of polished concrete flooring include:
-
Seamless, joint-free appearance
-
Exceptional strength and durability
-
Minimal maintenance requirements
-
Compatibility with underfloor heating
-
Suitable for both interior and exterior spaces with a wide range of colours to choose from.
These qualities have made polished concrete an increasingly sought-after choice within contemporary residential design, as well as in high-end commercial environments.

Consultation
We begin by discussing the project requirements, intended use of the space and the preferred concrete finish. At this stage we also consider floor layout, joints and integration with elements such as underfloor heating.
Site Preparation
The floor area is prepared to ensure a stable base for the slab. This typically includes setting levels, installing insulation where required and positioning reinforcement before the concrete is placed.
Concrete Placement
The bespoke ready mix concrete is carefully placed and levelled using a laser level to achieve the required thickness and accuracy, the Industrial Quartz Colour Surface Hardener is then applied by hand.
Power Floating
As the concrete begins to cure, the surface is power floated using specialist machinery. This works the chosen topical colour into the surface, creating the beautiful polished concrete finish.
Cut & Cover
24 hours after the initial placement and power floating, crack inducement joints are cut into the surface to help mange natural movement in the concrete. The surface is then covered with a 3 layer protection and handed over to the client.
Sealing
Finally on our last visit the floor is sanded, washed and sealed. This protects the surface against stains, enhances the overall finish and improves the maintenance protocol.
