Project Overview
Ash Tree House is a high-profile North London residence known for its bold architectural interventions and carefully curated material palette. The project required a polished concrete installation that would operate as both a functional surface and a defining design element.
The Brief
The architect required polished concrete across the lower ground floor and external courtyard, ensuring:
Seamless integration between interior and landscaped exterior.
Precision detailing across stair risers and landings.
A bespoke colour aligned with the interior scheme.
A durable, low-maintenance finish suitable for family use.
Material continuity was central to the architectural vision.
The Solution
We installed 102 m² of polished concrete to the lower ground floor, incorporating landing steps and stair risers, alongside 39 m² within the courtyard including rear steps and a raised seating area.
A custom buff tone was developed to introduce warmth while maintaining the contemporary aesthetic.
The installation required detailed coordination between internal levels and external landscaping works.
Key considerations included:
Alignment of stair risers and landings with floor planes.
Managing thresholds between interior and courtyard.
Ensuring uniform tone and finish across varying light conditions.
Protecting surfaces during subsequent construction phases
Surface polishing was calibrated to achieve a refined finish without excessive reflectivity.
Technical Considerations
Each stage was carefully planned and executed to ensure the final surface met both the aesthetic vision and the practical demands of the home.

The Result
The polished concrete forms a continuous architectural element linking interior and exterior spaces. The bespoke buff finish softens the material expression while maintaining durability and clarity. The
completed installation contributes materially and visually to one of the home’s defining design features.
