Project Overview

Ram House is a contemporary private residence located in Dulwich Village, designed with a strong emphasis on material contrast, clean geometry and precise detailing. The scheme integrates polished concrete across both internal living spaces and external terraces, using the material as a unifying architectural element.

The project required a consistent finish across 225 m² of internal floor space and 63 m² of external terraces, creating a seamless relationship between interior and exterior zones. The polished concrete was intended to enhance natural light, reinforce spatial continuity, and provide a durable, low-maintenance surface suitable for modern family living.

The Brief

The architectural intent centred around achieving continuity across multiple surfaces and thresholds while incorporating bespoke concrete features.

  • 225 m² of internal polished concrete flooring

  • 63 m² across three external terrace areas

  • Seamless transitions between internal and external levels

  • Integration of bespoke cast-in-situ concrete elements

  • A custom colour tone aligned with the interior palette

  • A high-performance, long-lasting finish suitable for both environments

Precision in level alignment and consistency of finish were critical to maintaining the architectural clarity of the design.

The Solution

We delivered a full polished concrete installation across all internal and external areas, coordinating pours and finishes to achieve a cohesive material language throughout the property.

All surfaces were finished in a bespoke green tone, developed specifically for the project to complement surrounding materials and landscaping.

In addition to the flooring, we formed a number of integrated architectural elements, including a cast-in-situ fire hearth and a 7-metre concrete bench. These were designed and installed to align precisely with surrounding floor levels, reinforcing the monolithic appearance of the scheme.

Achieving continuity across internal and external environments required careful sequencing and technical control.

Key considerations included:

  • Precise alignment of finished floor levels across terrace thresholds

  • Movement joint detailing between internal and exposed external areas

  • Controlled curing processes to maintain colour consistency

  • Coordination of large-format pours to avoid visible transitions

  • Dimensional accuracy across bespoke cast elements

External areas were finished with consideration for slip resistance while maintaining visual consistency with internal surfaces.

Technical Considerations

Each stage was carefully planned and executed to ensure the final surface met both the aesthetic vision and the practical demands of the home.

The Result

The completed installation establishes polished concrete as a defining architectural material within the home. The bespoke tone, combined with integrated features and seamless transitions, creates a cohesive and refined environment.

The material enhances natural light, strengthens the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, and delivers a robust, low-maintenance solution aligned with the demands of contemporary residential living.
